May is National Home Remodeling Month in the United States of America. So here at iCloseHomes Inc. , to contribute the nationwide effort to update existing pieces of real estate, we’re spreading the word as well as offering a few ideas for your own home renovations.
The benefits of home remodeling are multifold. It helps everyone, from you the individual who may be looking to sell your home soon, by adding value to their home. When you remodel your home you may very well increase the value of others in your community, while inspiring others to do the same. Remodeling a home for resale is in essence, recycling it, and by updating, and using the homes that are already standing, we cut down on waste and avoid flaws that are often found in newly constructed homes, while generating work for professionals who specialize in major remodel projects.
What remodeling projects should you do?
The projects you might decide to do could depend on your reason for doing them, the scale of the project you’d like to do, and how much help you’ll have. If you’re itching to participate in the national effort, but straining for ideas that will fit your budget, keep reading we’ve got you covered.
For those looking for small projects they can do themselves.
Painting can be an excellent, cost effective way to update your home, and the amount of time or effort it takes is completely up to you. You could spend an afternoon painting a single bedroom, a day repainting a larger space like your kitchen or living room, or dedicate a few upcoming weekends to repainting your house. No matter how much you decide to do, painting can increase the appeal of your home on it’s own , and is definitely worth consideration for those looking for remodeling projects they can do themselves.
Maybe the word landscaping as an idea brings up mental images of large scale projects, lots of digging and hard work, and if you really want to make the commitment and get your hands dirty, it can be that. However not all landscaping endeavors have to be so major. Adding a new plant to an existing garden is always an option, or adding a tree can be a great way to create shade and make the experience just outside a home more enjoyable.
These are slightly larger projects that you may want to consider getting some help for.
Adding new flooring to a home can make it feel like a completely different space. Replacing older carpet would be a good place to start. You could also consider changing your flooring material altogether, opting to switch to something like hardwood, or if you’d like a less worrisome maintenance experience opt for laminate or tile.
Resurfacing older cabinets and replacing counter tops in your kitchen and bathroom can be a great way to add value to your home and may cause you, friends, or potential buyers to double take when they see your updates. Of course you don’t have to do both of these things at the same time, but if you choose to execute these projects and paint, your kitchen and/or bathroom will look and feel like a completely new space.
What are you doing to participate in National Remodeling Month? Fixing up your own home, helping a friend and participating in community builds are all great options and either way, we’d love to hear about it.
